Our recent success in helping late night restaurant Cabana is a perfect illustration of that approach. Owner Dapson Talabi wanted to extend the hours of his venue – which offers late dining and entertainment – and applied for temporary extensions (TENs) in the first instance. The licensing committee at Redbridge Council, in north east London, rejected Mr Talabi’s application, even after he brought forward his closing time request, and his appeal was also turned down.
Mr Talabi asked Complete Licensing to help out with a further application, and whilst this was also turned down by the licensing authority, he – and we – took the application to a magistrates’ court appeal, which was successful.
The Metropolitan Police had opposed the extension throughout, but sheer hard work and deep knowledge of licensing laws enabled our experts to put together an unarguable case on behalf of Cabana.
Our former police officers, environmental health experts and legal team spent a great deal of time examining and advising on licence compliance, noise reduction standards and health and safety measures at Cabana as well as examining a great deal of data, including historic statistics on crime and licensing problems in the area.
“It was looking bleak, to be honest,” said Mr Talabi. “We had engaged another firm and had our applications rejected, but then Complete Licensing came in and their approach was outstanding – very detailed and using great knowledge of the licensing laws and our particular circumstances.
“I had been advised by some law firms that we had no chance of success, but Complete Licensing proved them wrong. We even achieved a better result than we hoped for, with licensing hours being granted beyond what we asked for, with no restrictions, and on an ongoing basis, not just for TENs.
“It brought to an end a long period of uncertainty, and we wouldn’t have managed it without Complete Licensing.”
