Raise a glass to royal good taste

Locals in Hackney are a fortunate lot: when they fancy a slice of cake they have a patissiere good enough for royalty on their doorstep. Claire Ptak opened Violet, her cake shop-bakery, a decade ago and her reputation has grown to such an extent that she was asked to make the wedding cake for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Her culinary skills have long since earned her a faithful following at Violet. She has used the recent lockdown period to revamp the premises and when she reopens is aiming to provide her customers with the perfect combination – cake and wine.

Claire submitted her licence application, but after police and some local residents raised objections she asked Complete Licensing to help out. Our experts made a site visit and based on the comprehensive Crime and Disorder we prepared, police withdrew their objections. We made other suggestions to help the application and Claire has signed up to our ongoing compliance schedule, pending approval of her application.

The application will be heard by Hackney Council’s licensing sub-committee in early October. The comprehensive reports produced will, Claire is hoping, leave her free to uncork the red (or white, or rose) and her customers free to enjoy food and drink fit for a prince.
